I originally scheduled an oil change for my 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee. That same day my Jeep won't start, so I call ahead to see if he can fix my ignition. They say they can rebuild my ignition for $150. I have the Jeep towed there and they then tell me, the parts inside the steering column are broken, the whole steering column will need to be replaced, and this is why my Jeep won't start. He then tells me the ignition is not a separate piece, but is a part of the steering column. Having already watched numerous videos that day on how to replace the ignition on this Jeep, I am naturally suspicious. I call my brother, who has been a mechanic for 30 years, and he agrees with me that $400-$500 doesn't sound right, so I ask the guy at the front desk to remove the tamper resistant screws from the ignition housing and let me see if I can start the Jeep from the rear of the ignition. He tells me he cannot let me work on my Jeep in his parking lot for insurance purposes and that even if I did remove the ignition piece and get the Jeep started, I won't be able to turn it off. Eventually, seeing through the lies, I have the Jeep towed to my apartment, remove the ignition myself, confirm that the Jeep can be started from the rear of the ignition, and can be turned off using the same method, go to Orielly's Auto Parts, buy a new ignition key cylinder for $60 and I once again have a working Jeep, and I saved myself from being swindled for $500. Not only did Sheridan Auto Tech lose my business here, but they lost my business to do the oil change, and a lot of work I mentioned I need done to my Jeep.
Thank you for your feedback Scott, i am sorry we were not on the same page regarding the needed repairs on your jeep. I would like to remind you that is was towed in at 3:30 pm and was looked at on the spot during a very busy day. You were given a worst case scenario price at your request, and you were denied the request for us remove your ignition switch moments before closing so you could then continue working on your vehicle in our parking lot. We are pleased to hear you repaired your vehicle and hope you the best on your 4 wheel project.
